The Aging Workforce: Electricity Industry Challenges and Solutions

This article is based on the discussion at a workshop conducted by EPRI and Carnegie Mellon University’s Electricity Industry Center on April 3, 2006, on issues surrounding the aging electric industry workforce. The event was co-sponsored by the American Public Power Association (APA), the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI). Forty senior operations and human resource utility executives discussed problems and possible solutions. A longer write-up of the meeting is available at www.EPRI.com. A meeting that builds on these insights is planned for the near future at Carnegie Mellon.
